THE LARRIKIN

Documentary

About

I was commissioned to create the graphics and animation for a documentary exploring the life and work of controversial media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

One early segment, The Larrikin (an Australian term for a high-spirited youth) focuses on Murdoch’s childhood. With no archival footage available from that period, I developed a cartoon version of the young Rupert, drawing on a 1920s visual style to bring stories and anecdotes from his early life to the screen.

These animated sequences were interwoven with motion graphics featuring ephemera from Murdoch’s upbringing, helping to present his formative years in a more engaging and visually dynamic way—moving beyond the traditional talking-head documentary format.

Below are character designs and concept sketches from the segment.
